Latest Weather and Haze Situation
Scattered hotspots were detected in the central and southern parts of Lao PDR, the northern parts of Cambodia. A few to isolated hotspots were detected elsewhere in the central, eastern and southern parts of the Mekong sub-region. A few hotspots were detected in the northern parts of the Philippines. Hotspot counts for the northern parts of the sub-region were not recorded due to a partial satellite pass. In recent satellite observations, moderate to dense smoke haze was observed in most parts of Myanmar, the central and northern parts of Thailand as well as the the southern parts of Lao PDR and Viet Nam. Transboundary smoke haze was observed to cover the northeastern parts of Thailand and the northern parts of Lao PDR. A slight localised smoke plume was observed in the northern parts of the Philippines.
Over the southern ASEAN region, isolated showers were observed while drier conditions were observed over parts of Peninsular Malaysia and the central parts of Sumatra. A few hotspots were detected in Sulawesi, the central parts of Sumatra and the southern parts of Peninsular Malaysia. Moderate smoke plumes were observed in the central parts of Sumatra.

Weather and Haze Outlook
Over the next few days, dry conditions are generally forecast over the Mekong sub-region with the exception of some showers forecast over the northern and southern parts of Thailand, the central parts of Viet Nam and the northern parts of Myanmar. These areas facing wetter conditions may experience easing of the current hotspot and haze situation, however other areas of the Mekong sub-region facing prolonged drier conditions may still see escalated hotspot and haze activities with a risk of transboundary haze occurrence. The prevailing winds over the northern ASEAN region are forecast to blow from the northeast, except for the prevailing winds over Myanmar which are forecast to blow from the southwest.
For the southern ASEAN region, isolated showers are forecast except for drier conditions forecast over the southwestern parts of Kalimantan. Hotspots and localised smoke plumes can still emerge in areas of the region facing relatively drier conditions. The prevailing winds over the southern ASEAN region are forecast to blow from the west to northwest with the prevailing winds over Peninsular Malaysia and the northern parts of Borneo expected to blow from the northeast.
