In the Mekong sub-region, dry conditions were observed, except over parts of Viet Nam where there were isolated showers today. Widespread hotspots were detected in Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand, while isolated hotspots were detected in Lao PDR and Viet Nam. Thin to moderate smoke haze was observed in Myanmar, as well as in northern and central Thailand where many stations reported air quality in the Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy range. Haze was also reported in the early afternoon at a few ground stations in northern Thailand and near Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. Elsewhere in the ASEAN region, cloudy conditions with isolated showers were observed.
Dry conditions are forecast to persist over the Mekong sub-region, except over parts of Viet Nam where isolated showers may be expected over the next few days. On the other hand, isolated to scattered showers are forecast over most areas elsewhere in the ASEAN region. The prevailing winds are forecast to blow mainly from the northeast or east over areas north of the Equator, and from the west or northwest over areas south of the Equator.
