Dry Weather to Continue for the Rest of January 2022

Singapore, 17 January 2022 – The prevailing Northeast Monsoon season is expected to continue through January 2022, with the low-level winds blowing from the north or northeast. Generally dry conditions are expected for the second fortnight of January, although short-duration thundery showers can be expected over parts of the island on one or two days.

2      During the fortnight, the monsoon rain band is forecast to be located to the south of the equatorial Southeast Asia region. The presence of a dry air mass in the surrounding vicinity of Singapore will bring relatively fair weather on most days, except for occasional passing showers in the afternoon. Windy conditions can be expected in the first week of the fortnight. On one or two days, there may be short-duration thundery showers over parts of the island in the afternoon and evening due to convergence of prevailing winds with the sea breeze. Overall, the rainfall for January 2022 is expected to be below-average over most parts of the island.

3      In the second half of January 2022, the daily temperature is forecast to range between 24oC and 33oC on most days. On days with lighter winds, the daily maximum temperature may be higher, and reach around 34oC.
